Fashion ideas in between seasons
Okay, this didn’t intend to strictly be a fashion post. But I need fashion ideas here! This weekend has been a bit deceitful, and that’s where I just get all confused with what to wear. Sitting inside and looking out, it’s been the most glorious couple of days. The birds are coming to the trees in the garden, the sun is bright and no cloud in sight. With the heating on, my brain is telling me spring is in the air! Yeah, sounds like I’m crazy, but when I feel nice and warm and it’s all sunny outside, I’m thinking the clocks are about to spring forward and the trees are about to blossom.
The sad truth is, it’s still February and actually it’s bitterly cold as soon as the front door opens. Plus there is talk of snow this week meaning winter is still clinging on for dear life.
But the sun is still warm (ignoring the Siberian winds), so we decided to head out in the car to see a bit of the countryside. Plus it’s a good way to get a three year old off to sleep.
In the car it was really warm with the sun beaming down. So what to take with me – my huge winter coat in black, or a nice light weight pretty mac? Or a cute jacket with scarf? The decisions. Then jeans and boots, or trainers, or a skirt? Help!
So I mixed it up a bit. I dressed warm for winter with a polo neck which wasn’t too thick, but covers enough to keep a good temperature (I’m all for being practical), plus thick black tights. Then I wore a midi skirt from Boohoo. I love these skirts and I have a few of them. The darker coloured ones are great with tights and boots in colder weather, or with a spaghetti strap top and wedges in the summer. The brighter coloured ones can be worn with nude tights on a chilly day or again great on holiday.
Then the footwear
What to wear on my feet? I favour boots in the cooler months. They don’t come any more stylish (and quirky) than my Irregular Choice Miaow boots, in black and silver. They are so comfy, while giving the outfit a bit of an individual edge. Plus people always comment on my ‘IC’s’. These are my favourite pair.
It was perfect for our civilised outing out, driving in the country. I almost felt like we were turning into my parents..
Heading into evening
I just love it when I’m wearing an outfit I can get away with for the evening too. That night we did Gin O’Clock with friends. I didn’t have to change – perfect! It was an evening in at their place rather than going out. So style and comfort win. The midi length of the skirt is great for feeling comfortable and it’s pretty which makes me feel little bit dressed up. Or should I say grown up? A great ‘smart casual’ look.
