Style Your Midi Skirt
Last summer I decided how much I love midi skirts. They can be really flattering and so versatile. I started off with a couple of bodycon style skirts and found they were great for evenings out. Being figure-hugging they show off your natural curves without revealing too much flesh. Perfect for hiding what you want to hide without dressing frumpy! So how to style your midi skirt..?
The midi length means mid calf – halfway between the knee and the ankle. If you’re more on the petite side this length could be slightly off putting, with a fear looking swamped. But I find them quite flattering and I’m under 5ft 4in. However if you’re not convinced, heels or wedges make a huge difference. Midi skirts themselves come in different styles, so find one that suits you. Some are slightly longer than others – which is strange when they are meant to be the same length! But I go for the slightly shorter style of midi (not on the knee but not down to the ankles either!).
I like to wear fuller skirts which are not so ‘clingy’ during the day or during the hot summer months. I’ll wear a body-con style midi skirt for a night out.
Midi skirts don’t have to be just for the warm weather – there are so many ways to wear them whatever time of year it is. Plus you can wear your skirt for different occasions – yes, the same skirt!
I am all for being creative with outfits and re-styling what you already have in the wardrobe and this is a perfect example. This is one of my midi skirts from Boohoo.com. I love the floral print and it’s the perfect colour for all seasons.
Putting the midi skirt together with a warm pair of tights and long boots, the outfit has a stylish smart-casual edge. Definitely an autumn look for when the weather starts to turn cooler. To carry this off, choose a polo neck or jumper which is fitted and tuck it in. It will give you a better shape and it’s really flattering.
The other thing I did here was wear boots with a low heel. It just gave me a bit of extra height!
This is a great weekend look when you are out and about, or if you’re a yummy-mummy wear it for the school run.
I paired it with a classic mac from Debenhams and felt ready for the day.
Put on your favourite heels and a classic top and this is a lovely going out outfit. Yes, heels again for me! When I put this on I actually felt rather classy and very grown up. An off the shoulder ‘Bardot’ top would really give it a 1950’s edge.
I would wear this out with the girls for drinks or a meal. But it’s also a perfect date night outfit. A wrap or shawl would finish it off rather than a jacket.
Put on a spaghetti strap vest top and your most comfortable sliders (or even flip flops if you want) and you’re looking cool for the warm weather. This was my summer look as I strolled the high street or enjoyed a BBQ with friends. On holiday this is a stylish way to visit towns and markets or have lunch out.
Again, remember to keep the top tucked in. My sliders also have a bit of a wedged heel for that extra height. I need it! It’s all about proportion and silhouette.
Then instead of changing completely for an evening in the hotel bar, just swap your sliders for heels and add that shawl again.
Bring out your inner rock chick and dress down in the best possible way. Put on your leather jacket – fake or real, and you’re all set for meeting the girls. My faux leather jacket was from eBay and a total bargain! I wore this with grey suede-look ankle boots from New Look. A great way to style your midi skirt!
If the biker image isn’t your thing, wear a smart blazer and pair with kitten heels. Swap the tee for a plain blouse and you could even head to the office. Do a day’s work then you’re all set for evening drinks with the colleagues!
