The Salt Kingdom Review
Dry Salt Therapy (also known as Halotherapy) was something I had never heard of, until I was invited to The Salt Kingdom in Bracknell. The Salt Kingdom offers a very unique experience in a cave of Himalayan salt, which can help with an array of conditions. By spending time in the room, you are able to relax and breath in a low concentration of salt. This can help to fight micro-organisms that cause infections, reduce inflammation and strengthen the immune system. Conditions such as asthma, hayfever, sinus problems, and skin conditions such as eczema, acne and psoriasis can be relieved. Those suffering with chronic health issues such as COPD, cystic fibrosis and bronchitis can also see benefits.
Owner Alina kindly invited me to a very special event in The Salt Kingdom with Natalie Fitzgerald Francis from Harmonious Sound Healing. I was aware of sound healing and sound baths, but again had never experienced it. However Alina explained that the combination of salt therapy and sound healing promotes relaxation and wellbeing. The salt healing works on the respiratory system and the sound healing works on the nervous system on a cellular level. As someone who is always very busy, I was certainly keen to spend some time in a relaxed space, and in an environment with many health benefits.
Arriving at The Salt Kingdom
As soon as I entered the room, I was amazed by the carpet of Himalayan salt on the floor. I had never seen anything like it before. I was aware that I needed to remove my shoes by the door, and I came prepared with a pair of thick socks to keep my feet nice and warm during the sound healing session. On the left hand side of the room there was a play area for children, as they also hold family sessions for children who would benefit from the salt. The salt is like a beach where they can play in the ‘sand’ and there are toys and a play house.
On the right were six reclining chairs with fluffy blankets. There was a TV screen on the wall with a relaxing scene, and Natalie was in the corner with a table of Himalayan singing bowls of different sizes.
I was warmly welcomed immediately and I made myself comfortable in my chair under my fluffy blanket. I was asked to fill out a health form and Alina explained how the salt can benefit individuals and any bacteria or impurities will leave the body naturally over the following few days.
Once I made myself comfortable, Natalie asked me to take a deep breath in as she lightly sounded a bowl next to me, and then take a breath out – so I could focus on my breath to prepare for the session. We were then all given a lavender scented eye mask.
Natalie began the session using the sounds and frequency of the bowls, and her own voice. The session continued just with the bowls. The sound waves from the singing bowls ‘bathe’ you, giving a different experience for every individual. I allowed my mind to wander, as I went from thought to thought. Every so often I felt myself drift into a deep tranquil state, but I still experienced thoughts – almost like dreams, even though I stayed awake during the process. On occasions I was aware of the people next to me, but stayed very relaxed.
The sound healing lasted for forty minutes in total, after which we were invited to choose a herbal tea (or warm water with honey) and enjoy it in our comfy chair. The teas had a little message on, which was quite powerful. We also had fifteen minutes of salt therapy. The halogenerator machine disperses micro sized particles of salt into the air, which is an effective treatment. We also chatted to one another and shared our personal experience. Everyone was there for a different reason and we all benefited in different ways.
Natalie had placed some angel cards on the table, and we could each take a card. They all had a different message on the back – mine was a prayer.
Booking a session
Afterwards I felt as though I wanted to book a session at The Salt Kingdom straight away. My eight year old daughter has a history of respiratory problems, so the family session really appeals. I would definitely recommend going along.
